Objective
As part of the two research projects at the Institut für Eisenhüttenkunde at the RWTH Aachen in recent years, investigations have been carried out on the forming and fracture behaviour of large tensile specimens. The investigations showed that in conjunction with other transition temperature concepts the brittle fracture of large tensile stress specimens can more or less be prevented. The failure behaviour in the elastic-plastic (Ti < T < Ta) and in the fully plastic (T > Ta) areas were only able to be described in a limited way. The new research project is aimed in particular at making a detailed examination of failure behaviour between Ti and Ta. In addition the effect of the rigidity of the specimens and the rate of elongation (exemplary) on failure behaviour in this area will be determined. Another aim is to determine what toughness is required when high strength structural steels, such as for example St E 690 or St E 900, are used in order to guarantee the safety of a steel structure under operating conditions.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
