Studies of the mechanism of ageing in fatigue and corrosion fatigue

Objective

The purpose of the proposed research is to determine the influence of the test technique including constant displacement, constant load, slow strain rate and small amplitude cyclic loading on the stress corrosion resistance and hydrogen uptake in a variety of steel/environment systems. In addition, the influence of naturally occurring changes in the testing solution will be examined with respect to the stress corrosion properties and hydrogen uptake. Use will be make of a mathematical model for corrosion fatigue developed under a previous ECSC supported project in order to understand the influence of ripple loading. Information regarding hydrogen uptake, loading conditions and the stress corrosion behaviour should provide a basis for understanding the processes controlling cracking and provide guidelines for the development of steel alloys resistant to stress corrosion cracking.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
