Objective
This project has the following objectives :
- to make a fundamental and systematic study of the microstructures and the strengthening mechanisms in steels for elevated temperature service, based on a 0.06-0.15%C; 5-12%Cr matrix strengthened by additions of molybdenum, vanadium, titanium, and tungsten,
- to study specifically the type 91, (9%Cr, Mo, V, Nb, composition); to establish the roles of niobium and vanadium in controlling the strengthening particle distribution obtained in tempering and after heat treatment to stimulate weld HAZ conditions;
- to establish the benefits of secondary remelting operations to improve the purity levels and the effect on the properties of this type of steel.
