Industrial-scale investigation of the effect of grain-boundary segregating elements

Objective

The magnetic properties of non-orientated products can be substantially improved if these can be enhanced in the final product, although the magnetically favourable structural components diminish the components, which have a high magnetization energy. The subsequent continuous cold rolling and final annealing heat cycle are not significantly altered, since the assumed physical mechanism is as follows. As a result of the segregation, which has occurred, the grain boundary of the hot-rolled product, which is the preferred nucleation site of this type of grain (111), is partially blocked as regards the development of this unfavourable role. This should result in the increased intensity of the magnetically favourable components in the final product. On the basis of the initial encouraging results, which were described in a brief technical note to the Community, it was decided to proceed to industrial - scale testing. This research therefore covers full-scale tests of the feasibility and efficiency of the thermal cycles carried out in the laboratory.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
