Joining of steel to different sheet materials & product performance evaluation

Objective

The main objective of this research is to evaluate the ability to join mild steel, either zinc coated or not, to different materials such as aluminium and copper or to high strength steel grades, using different joining processes such as spot welding, friction welding, laser welding, adhesive bonding, weld bonding and clinching. The mechanical characteristics of these joints will also be studied for similar and dissimilar thickness combinations, with a minimum thickness of at least 0.5 mm.
