The influence of low carbon equivalents and low sulphur levels on the allowable welding and bending procedures

Objective

The aim of the research is to establish to what extent the potentials of steels with very low carbon equivalents and very low sulphur levels can be realised. In particular, the properties after hot and cold deformation and after welding need to be examined and the well-established procedures of bending, cutting and welding need to be adapted. The susceptibility to cold cracking in the HAZ of low sulphur steels need evaluating to compare with the known benefits of quenchability, toughness and reduced lamellar tearing sensibility.
