Effect of residual stress and welded attachment thickness on fatigue of welded joints

Objective

The aim of this research is to assess and quantify the effects of residual stresses from welding on the fatigue properties of normalised and quenched and tempered steels. The fatigue properties of welded connections with practical joint geometries shall be evaluated and the influence of attachment thickness shall be explored. It is intended to build on a previous work which yielded ambiguous results for attachment thickness in normalised and in quenched and tempered joints.
