Objetivo
The most important in-service criterion for automotive wheels is high fatigue endurance which determines the extent of down-gauging and weight reduction that can be achieved. This project will involve a systematic study of the effects of composition and hot rolling conditions on the microstructures and properties of a wide range of steel types (microalloyed ferrite-bainite and ferrite- martensite steels, low carbon bainitic steels and high aluminium TRIP steels) to enable identification of materials possessing optimum formability and fatigue performance over the tensile strength range 600 to 800 MPa. Production trials will be conducted on a selection of the more promising steel types.
