Investigation of the formability (including hydroforming capability), springback & crash resistance of modern high strength steels under development

Objective

This project will assess the effect of the hardening mechanism and microstructure on tensile and formability properties. Therefore a wide range of high strength steels (HSLA, DP, Multiphase, TRIP, etc.) will be generated. Tensile and formability properties will be determined, including the possibility for hydroforming. In addition the crash resistance and spring back will be investigated. For each forming type the most suitable hardening mechanism and microstructure will be assessed, which will allow to define a production strategy that guarantees strength, formability and safety requirements.
