Objective
The aim of the project is to study the mechanism by which boron additions influence the development of austenitic and ferritic grain structures in heat treatable and plain C-Mn steels (0.005-0.2%C) during and following thermal and mechanical processing. In addition the effect of various micro-alloying elements and impurities on the boron hardenability factor by means of an innovative analytical and theoretical approach will be examined. Based on this research a model for the prediction of the shape of the Jominy profile of low alloyed boron steels on basis of the steel chemistry will be developed with the aim of replacing the manual Jominy end-quench test. Subsequent to cold working operation, the effect of stoichiometric and super-stoichiometric unprotected boron additions on the work hardening rate and static strain ageing of low carbon steels will be quantified.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
