Objective
Weldable supermartensitic stainless steels (SMSS) are an interesting alternative to carbon, duplex and clad steels for use in flowlines for transport of corrosive oil and gas. The main objective of this project is to further optimise supermartensitic stainless steel base metal composition and microstructure in combination with improved pipe-welding conditions for safe application in flowlines. Systematic research will be undertaken in order to understand the corrosion-cracking phenomena, to define susceptible microstructures and to develop adequate laboratory test methods.
