Objective
As the internal surface of stainless steel pipes has negligible influence on the drinking water quality, the interest has grown markedly during recent years for the use of stainless steel pipes in water pipelines. In this project it is intended to clarify, by field testing in a variety of soils, the resistance of various stainless steel grades against the different types of corrosion that may occur on stainless steel in different soils, to enable a safe use of stainless steel pipelines in various types of soil and to provide basic data for a new market application for stainless steels, such as buried pipelines.
