Fire safety of industrial halls and low-rise buildings: realistic fire design, active safety measures, post-local failure simulation and performance based requirements

Objective

New fire safety regulation proposals for single storey buildings have been introduced in various countries (France, Spain, Belgium). These regulations might have a negative impact on the market share for steel. The primary aim of this research is to prove that the fire safety of steel single storey buildings is sufficient, in the absence of passive fire protection. This will be done by means of assessment of risk and structural simulations demonstrating that the safety of people and firemen is ensured. The research will be extended to low-level multi-storey structures (2-4 storeys) with non-composite and/or composite floors.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
