Development of design rules for the fire behaviour of external steel structures

Objective

Main interests of external steel structures is to give to architects the possibility to accentuate the "steel character" of the building and an easy way of avoiding or reducing the use of fire protection. The project aims to demonstrate the way to make external structures cheaper. This will be done by improving the existing model for determining the accurate thermal actions, by extending the physical model for temperature development within elements by verifying the models on the basis of experimental results (existing or new) and by developing simple rules for calculations.
