The use of adhesive bonding in steel framed buildings and structures

Objective

Increasing interest is being expressed in the use of adhesive bonding for connecting members in new steel framed construction. However, doubts exist concerning the durability of the bond and there is a lack of design guidance. This study, which will examine adhesive formulation, surface pre-treatment and adhesive layer thickness, will cover laboratory test pieces and full scale beam - column connections aimed at refining the design guidance already available.
