Objective
The replacement of fabrication intensive and, therefore, costly rigid joints by semi-rigid connections in steel construction has the potential to improve the economic competitions of steelwork. With this aim in view, research will be undertaken to establish a computerized databank on the semi-rigid aspects of connection performance, use of the databank in theoretical studies of stiffness, conduct tests to measure the characteristics of several forms of connection and develop design procedures for common types of connections. The work will be undertaken in close collaboration with a parallel study by ARBED Recherches (7210-SA/507).
