Process for recycling grease-laden sludges from rolling mill operations using oxygen steel convertors

Objective

Rolling operations require large quantities of lubricating oils and greases. These products are partially recovered, at rates of some 2 to 3 kg per tonne of steel. Due to their high oily matter content they are unable to be recycled through the sinter plant and have to be stockpiled. The aim of this project is to confirm the laboratory studies carried out by SOLLAC and LECES, as well as the work undertaken by the Centre de Pyrolyse de Marienau, by constructing a pilot installation. The initial work has demonstrated the feasibility of compacting these grease-laden waste materials for further use in the converter. This cold compacting process, with no fume or vapour production, is a promising solution to the storage of grease-laden wastes and the accompanying pollution risk.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
