Quenching and self-tempering (QST) of beams in rolling heat (phase 2)

Objective

After a successful completion of a preceeding pilot project (7215-EB/500) limited to 40 mm flange thickness beams, this project intends to scale-up QST technology to beams with flange-thickness up to and even exceeding 125 mm and a height of 1100 mm.
Presently, the yield strength of these commercially available products are relatively low. Furthermore, they have high carbon equivalents (CE) that leads to low impact toughness and poor weldability, thus restricting the widespread applications of these heavy beams.
The interest of such an industrial application is considerable in order to enlarge the market phase of steel in such important markets as off-shore construction and high-rise buildings.
This 1st phase will be devoted to the definition of the fundamental characteristics of the equipment and control of the process as well as to the engineering, construction and erection of the installation.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
