Objective

It is aimed to carry out on-line measurements without any contact between the sensor and the strip surface. The measurement is based on the scattering of a reflected light beam due to the surface roughness. The pilot and demonstration project will aim to improve the layout for the continuous industrial use of this method and construct and set-up a measuring system on a cold rolling mill. The proposed development should help to improve the competitive position of sheet steel vis-à-vis alternative materials in, for example, applications in the automative industry.
