Objective
The aim of this programme is to conceive, achieve and experiment at an industrial scale, an inductive strip edge reheating system on a hot strip mill. The 3MW installed power capacity will allow the transverse thermal homogeneity of the strips in front of the finishing mill to be achieved. The system will consits in 4 to 6 (2 to 3 per edge) "C-shaped" inductors, which will accommodate strip widths of between 900 and 2100 mm. The setting up of the inductors will allow the examination of this technology under industrial conditions and provide information on the following technical points: - improvement of stainless steel strip edge surface quality; - reduction of local wear on work rolls in the finishing train; - decrease of slab temperature level in the reheating furnace; - improvement of the mean metallurgical products structure. The final aim of this study is the achievement of good process control, which can also be applied to any other mill rolling stainless steel or other steel grades.
