Objective

This research project shall demonstrate the proper operation of the advanced edge-masking technologies in the hot strip mills to improve flatness at the strip edges. In order to control temperature in the edges of the strip at the ROT, an edge- masking system will be installed. The working positions of this edge-masking device (EMD) will be modelled. A flatness gauge will be installed at the coiler entry, so that the effects of the EMD can be measured. In addition an adaptation module will be developed to correct, from one coil to another, the actual EMD working positions of each group belonging to the ROT exit thermal map.
