Objective
The aim of the project is to design and develop an expert system to reduce the amount of operating-down-time suffered by 2 of the most widely used shearers in mining steep seams of coal. The system should interpret data gathered from a range of monitoring techniques to give a continuous report on the shearers current and future conditions.
The objective is to create an "Expert Decision Support System" capable of integrating and interpreting 5 condition monitoring techniques, combined with qualitative information on the history of machine maintenance.
The main technical advance will consist of the development of a level of inference which is capable of reaching a conclusion and recommending appropriate action at any particular point in time.
As a result of this development an improved mechanisation of coal mining in steep seam will be available with the effect of greater efficiency and higher output.
The issues of the planned development will have further positive effects in preventing damages which endanger the environment.
