The study of combining the effects of coal blending with advanced reburning to reduce NOx levels in coal combustion systems

Objective

The aim of the project is to achieve cleaner, more efficient burning of coal at lower capital cost in industrial and power station boilers by investigating NOX reduction by coal blending and fuel reburn technology in pulverised fuel and fluidised bed combustion.

- Laboratory studies of both types of combustion, using a range of coals and blends, aimed at improved understanding of interactions, particularly those resulting in NOx and N2O production.

- Checking of laboratory results on the pilot scale.

- Field tests at a power station.

- Techno-economic study.
