Improved Reliability, Control and Process Simulation Using Advanced Computer Models

Objective

The thrust of the work in these proposals is to use modeling to improve the understanding and predictability of coal utilisation processes and to improve coal combustion and gasification efficiency by process simulation. The ability to assess the effects of various fuel and process parameters and accurately predict efficiency and emission release is becoming of paramount importance to coal producers, equipment manufacturers and operators. Industry would prefer to make these assessments by modeling or by simple laboratory tests. However, a range of mathematical simulations must be employed to model the effects of fuel and plant process parameters on full scale plant performance. Such models require careful integration and need plant performance and fuel property data if they are to be of practical use. The proposal package therefore incorporates a wide variety of approaches for improving efficiency, reducing emissions, increasing reliability and minimising operating costs and covers a wide range of sizes of plant. The individual proposals fall into the following three work programmes.

1. Assessment and development of existing models for a range of full scale plant,

2. Improved understanding of scale-up criteria for design and between process type comparison,

3. Development of generic modeling tools and generic fuel testing procedures.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
