Summer School on Electrochemical Engineering and Catalysis-related Energy Applications The Summer school will provide the attendants with the background needed to transfer the fundamental understanding of (electro-)catalytic processes into technical applications. Particular attention will be paid to engineering aspects of fuel cell devices and electrolyzers. This Summer School will also explicitly consider complementary catalytic approaches to sustainable energy, such as batteries, “solar fuels”, photo-electrocatalysis, and biofuels. Workshop on Industrial (electro)catalysis The workshop will train the participants in aspects of industry-related catalysis research such as testing, scale up, optimization, reactor modelling, and (economic) feasibility evaluations of the (electro)catalytic technologies. International Conference on Electrocatalysis for Renewable Energy The conference organized by the network will provide the Fellows with the opportunity to learn to present as well as organize a scientific meeting. Workshop on how to succeed on the job market Workshop will provide the fellows with the essential competence toolbox to successfully find employment as well as to act efficiently in seeking employees. For fellows considering a career in academia Feibelman’s book “A PhD is not enough! A Guide to Survival in Science” will again serve as a guide. Workshop on Material Aspects of Contemporary (Electro-)Catalysis The workshop will cover synthetic aspects of the catalyst preparation for electrocatalytic applications. The lectures will cover the entire length scale of materials ranging from single crystals to nanoparticulate materials as well key solid-state techniques of their characterization. Workshop on intellectual property The workshop will address the practical and legal matters related to intellectual ownership, and with the foundation of spin-off companies. ELCOREL’s industrial participants will play a major role in this workshop. Workshop on Scientific Integrity, Gender Issues and General Leadership The workshop will discuss existing codes of conduct for scientists and aim at increasing awareness of the dynamics of interpersonal relationships within the research environment and provide the participant with instruments to evaluate and understand his/her role in the working environment. Workshop on proposal writing The workshop will provide the fellows with a survey of funding opportunities in the European Research Area and train them in effective proposal writing both for research grants and for the acquisition of experimental measuring time at major scientific (e.g. synchrotron) facilities. Participation at European Researchers Night Demonstration of the relevance of the consortium's research to the general public. Workshop on the Fundamentals of charge transfer processes The consortium will provide the fellows with a survey of the theory of charge transfer processes and its extension to electrocatalytic reactions. It will also cover the theory of voltammetry as the most common electrochemical technique. Workshop on use of High Performance Computing The workshop will discuss the state -of -the-art in high-performance and parallel scientific computing, focusing on applications and software issues related to high-performance parallel computing. The workshop will be organized in collaboration with Barcelona Supercomputing Center http://www.bsc.es/.
