Deliverables

Summer School of Surface Electrochemistry and Spectroscopy (opens in new window)

The Summer school will provide the attendants with the conceptual background and hands-on experience in advanced in situ spectro- electrochemical and surface imaging techniques employed in the investigations of electrocatalytic systems.

Summer School on Electrochemical Engineering and Catalysis-related Energy Applications (opens in new window)

The Summer school will provide the attendants with the background needed to transfer the fundamental understanding of (electro-)catalytic processes into technical applications. Particular attention will be paid to engineering aspects of fuel cell devices and electrolyzers. This Summer School will also explicitly consider complementary catalytic approaches to sustainable energy, such as batteries, “solar fuels”, photo-electrocatalysis, and biofuels.

Workshop on Industrial (electro)catalysis (opens in new window)

The workshop will train the participants in aspects of industry-related catalysis research such as testing, scale up, optimization, reactor modelling, and (economic) feasibility evaluations of the (electro)catalytic technologies.

International Conference on Electrocatalysis for Renewable Energy (opens in new window)

The conference organized by the network will provide the Fellows with the opportunity to learn to present as well as organize a scientific meeting.

Workshop on how to succeed on the job market (opens in new window)

Workshop will provide the fellows with the essential competence toolbox to successfully find employment as well as to act efficiently in seeking employees. For fellows considering a career in academia Feibelman’s book “A PhD is not enough! A Guide to Survival in Science” will again serve as a guide.

Workshop on Material Aspects of Contemporary (Electro-)Catalysis (opens in new window)

The workshop will cover synthetic aspects of the catalyst preparation for electrocatalytic applications. The lectures will cover the entire length scale of materials ranging from single crystals to nanoparticulate materials as well key solid-state techniques of their characterization.

Workshop on intellectual property (opens in new window)

The workshop will address the practical and legal matters related to intellectual ownership, and with the foundation of spin-off companies. ELCOREL’s industrial participants will play a major role in this workshop.

Workshop on Scientific Integrity, Gender Issues and General Leadership (opens in new window)

The workshop will discuss existing codes of conduct for scientists and aim at increasing awareness of the dynamics of interpersonal relationships within the research environment and provide the participant with instruments to evaluate and understand his/her role in the working environment.

Workshop on proposal writing (opens in new window)

The workshop will provide the fellows with a survey of funding opportunities in the European Research Area and train them in effective proposal writing both for research grants and for the acquisition of experimental measuring time at major scientific (e.g. synchrotron) facilities.

Participation at European Researchers Night (opens in new window)

Demonstration of the relevance of the consortium's research to the general public.

Workshop on the Fundamentals of charge transfer processes (opens in new window)

The consortium will provide the fellows with a survey of the theory of charge transfer processes and its extension to electrocatalytic reactions. It will also cover the theory of voltammetry as the most common electrochemical technique.

Workshop on use of High Performance Computing (opens in new window)

The workshop will discuss the state -of -the-art in high-performance and parallel scientific computing, focusing on applications and software issues related to high-performance parallel computing. The workshop will be organized in collaboration with Barcelona Supercomputing Center http://www.bsc.es/.

Workshop on efficient communication and presentation (opens in new window)

The workshop will train the fellows in effective scientific presentations, effective writing skills, and in communication skills targeting fellow scientists, funding bodies as well as the general public.

Summer School on Computational Chemistry (opens in new window)

The consortium will provide the attendants with a basic introduction into the application of quantum theory and statistical mechanisms to describe and simulate charge transfer and catalytic reactions, covering both thermodynamic and kinetic aspects. The network houses extensive experience in this field.

Workshop on how to tackle scientific problems cientific problems (opens in new window)

The workshop will provide the participants with fundamental instruments needed to successfully formulate, perform and evaluate a scientific project, including work-team and time management. The course will be partially based on Feibelman’s book “A PhD is not enough! A Guide to Survival in Science” as well as on personal experiences of senior members of the network.
