Objective
Aim of project:
To determine the energy expenditure involved in manual coal-winning, with a view to ensuring that workers are assigned to jobs appropriate to their physical state of health.
Methods:
Recording of heart rate (HR) over five working shifts by means of a 'Sport-Tester' system.
Determination of maximum oxygen uptake by means of maximal exercise tests, yielding ergospirometric and heart rate values.
Calculation of the correlation between heart rate (an independent variable) and VO2 (a dependent variable), using the values for these two parameters obtained during the exercise test.
Development of BASIC programmes with a view to:
calculating the intercept, slope, correlation coefficient (r) and standard estimation error;
calculating the VO2 minute by minute over the work shift, on the basis of the intercept, the correlation slope and the heart rate each minute throughout the shift, as measured with the 'sport-Tester' system.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
