Objective
The project will examine the operator-machine interactions in the control of the 12OOKW Electra shearers with a view seeking solutions to
- reduce physical stress through mechanical assistance,
- reduce mental stress through the automation of certain machine functions,
- examine a possible reorganisation of the workings.
Ways and Means to Achieve the Work
1. Observation of factors contributing to performance of task:
- technical characteristics (workings + machine),
- characteristics of operators (physical and psychophysiological),
- exact operating procedures (theoretical and applied),
- hazards which occur during the procedure (breakdowns, problems),
- communications, postures,
- environmental factors (noise, dust, lighting),
- workload.
2. Ergonomic analysis of work by a multidisciplinary team comprising:
- ergonomists,
- persons in charge of workings,
- doctors and a psychologist,
- test engineers an technicians,
- maintenance engineers and technicians,
will constitute the main method of study.
This will comprise four parts:
- analysis of work,
- assessment of workload,
- discussions with staff,
- ergonomic analysis of workings.
3. Definition of improvements or new solutions
This will be based on:
- an analysis of the existing situation, in particular the abnormalities recorded,
- an inventory of solutions adopted in other mines or other sectors of activity,
- suggestions from staff collected during discussions.
The implementation of solutions will be followed by a new phase of observation and analysis in order to assess the benefits obtained.
