Further study of nitrogen oxide emissions from steelmaking plants

Objective

The goal of this research is to propose solutions to reduce nitrogen oxide waste in steelmaking by optimizing the use of existing installations and by favouring setting up new techniques.

The four earlier coordinated ECSC research projects (CSM, LECES, CPM and BBF) made it possible to produce a preliminary inventory of nitrogen oxide emissions from steelworks and coke ovens and an initial estimate of the effect of these emissions on the quality of the surrounding atmosphere.

This second research drive will comprise the following:

- extension of the inventory;
- modelling of emissions of NOx and their derivatives;
- research into ways of minimizing these emissions which will be practicable at industrial level.

The project will include a systematic investigation of the two chief NOx emitters of the steel industry: ore sintering and reheating furnaces. It will also take into account lesser emitters such as blast furnace stoves and thermal power plants, the two types of steelworks.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
