Objective
This project forms part of attempts to reduce the dust-deposition nuisance experienced by people living near iron and steel plants.
The project's aim is to obtain an understanding of the relationship between dust emissions by a steel plant and the resultant deposition of dust near the Hoogoven plant, including in a residential area.
This project calls for the design, development and small-scale installation of an independent measurement network and warning system for coarse dust. The system provides on-line information about the deposition of coarse dust near the Hoogovens plant in Ijmuiden.
Two measurement and analysis devices have been designed: the Ecofys Dust Deposition Monitor (EDDM) and the Coarse Dust Recorder (CDR).
This project investigates the use of this equipment to quantify the deposition of coarse dust. It also includes research into how dust distribution is influenced by variables such as the kind of bulk materials handled and meterological conditions. To a limited extent these will be correlated with the pattern of complaints.
The plan is to adapt knowledge obtained from the measurement network and warning system for use by other iron and steel plants.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
