Objective
Before the start of maintenance work, various operations are undertaken to ensure that there are no dangers from the machines.
These operations are recorded in various documents, necessitating great care.
To eliminate the risk of human error which might cause the procedure for making installations safe to fail, we have designed a project to introduce a computerised management aid system covering all isolations of electromechanical equipment and permits-to-work.
This project is an integral part of ongoing research aimed at improving safety.
Fine analysis of the methods currently used enabled the project limits and new strategy to be established, with particular emphasis on:
- responsibility of those involved
- the different configurations possible and the hazards of each
- distribution of tasks.
Futhermore, in the context of computerisation, it was necessary to define:
- man-computer interfaces;
- positions of terminals
- system development forecasts
- information consistency checks
- computer equipment.

The study involved all the departments directly concerned (production, process office, maintenance, safety).
