Investigation on ensuring transmission through power and data transmitting cables in relation to the size of the ignition source

Objective

The aim of the research work is the screening of types of cables which guarantee the supply or power as long as possible. The investigation also should show if it is possible to guarantee the supply of power for a longer period, e.g. by laying the cables in sand. The results of the tests should give the mine rescue brigades and other rescue teams an indication of how long these cables could be used in emergencies.

In case of a mine fire it is necessary that data transmitting cables are able to function as long as possible to warn endangered personnel. It is also necessary to ensure the transmission of measured values e.g. for CH4 - and CO-concentrations to check the risk to the mine rescue brigades who are brought into action to combat the fire.

It is planned to conduct the following experiments for acquiring information on the functioning duration of the cables:

- laboratory tests according to VDE 0472 part 814
- fire tests with a wood loading of 300 kg in the Small Fire Gallery on the surface
- full scale fire tests with conveyor belts in the experimental Mine's underground Fire Galleries I and II. Through these trials the continuity of power supply will be tested as a function of the amount of wood loading and the distance from the source of fires.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
