Periodic Reporting for period 1 - FastPrk-2 (ENHANCED ON-STREET PARKING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM)

With an increasing population, urban life is becoming dominant. Cities need to constructively manage the consequences of an accelerated pace of life (such as traffic density, pollution, stress, etc.) moving towards smart city scenarios with solutions that make a positive difference to the lives of the community - citizens, councils, companies and policies makers.

Worldsensing designs sustainable and market-oriented technologies, offering end-to-end solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT) panorama. In one of its vertical markets, the company focuses on smart on-street parking systems, which enhance the use of current regulated parking spots with occupancy sensors that allow additional features and services while improving the user experience and parking area management.

At this juncture, Fastprk2 aims to develop a leading end-to-end solution with advanced features compared to current competitors’ solutions. To make full use of the potential of Fastprk2, the improved functionalities of the new product range from the certified parking occupancy detection to advanced services offered to end-users, merging the solution with the Mobility platform of Worldsensing. This will ultimately provide a smarter product than initially intended.
Worldsensing has actively worked to achieve the two main objectives set for the first year of the project:

(i) complete architecture for Fastprk2 solution (Objective 1) and

(ii) Validation of a first prototype (Objective 2).

In this sense, it is safe to say that the project development is on track despite some changes were added to the initial Fastprk2 concept, intended to keep the balance between the technical novelties and the market competitiveness of the final product. As this is being written, the architecture of Fastprk2 has been duly completed (, and the first functional prototype is in the last stage of development according to the EC-GA provisions.

The company has already succeeded in finding the commitment of some European partners to execute field trials at different locations with the aim to validate the system beyond a lab environment. Meanwhile, Worldsensing has also initiated the internal process which seeks to achieve ISO 9001 certification. (Objective 3). Finally, the company is putting efforts in the evangelisation of Fastprk2, and it has purposely made the new product a core part of its commercial strategy (Objective 4).

Fastprk-2 is being executed according to the EC-GA without significant deviations from the fixed objectives.
Fastprk2 will represent a solution that addresses some H2020 objectives as follows:

1) Efficiency and Flexibility: step forward in the operational efficiency of transport services (public and private), in terms of (i) identification of better route alternatives; and (ii) clever organisation and use of available resources. FastPrk-2 will allow collecting real-time information from the parking spots merging it with those data coming from other Worldsensing’s products in a cloud platform to foster interoperability. The proposed solution is scalable with the users’ needs.

2) Safety: the main factors influencing road injuries are: (i) exposure (total travel time), accident rate (accident risk per unit of exposure), and accident severity (injuries per accident). Given all these factors, Fastprk2 will offer solutions that reduce exposure and risk of an accident.

3) Sustainability: Fastprk2 will offer solutions to (i) improve traffic conditions and (ii) guarantee environmental-friendly mobility.

On the other hand and from an economic impact point of view, Fastprk2 development is a critical milestone to increase Worldsensing value by boosting the impact of this SME in the smart parking market at global level.
