Objective
The objective of the CIA project is to design an open and modular information system for the agricultural sector.
The approach will be to build a common information model after analysing business processes using methodologies developed in the CIM Open Systems Architecture (CIM-OSA) defined in project 688. In addition, a common user interface will be defined to give a similar "look and feel" to all applications. Parts of the information model will be implemented in the form of a system-wide data service. Suitable communication standards will be evaluated and communications interfaces implemented if not available.
The platform will be validated by building two demonstrator applications, one for integration on a single farm and the other for integration between different farms. A user group will assist in validating the results.
In addition to the work on the implementation of the information model, there will also be standardisation efforts in the area of electronic data interchange (EDI) communication protocols. Products based on the results of the project will be marketed by consortium members.
