ElectroMagnetic imaging for a novel genERation of medicAL Devices

Third Summer School

The Third Summer School is organized in two parts The first part organized by TUIL is on Msequence radar sensors technology that compared to classical microwave measurement and imaging approaches allows the manufacturing of small integrated and costefficient sensor devices as required for the practical use of EM medical imaging The course will cover theory measurement principle devices data analysis and practice exercises and measurements with Msequence devices The second part organized by NUIG is on clinical evaluation and translation of novel imaging technologies will focus on providing the participants with a fundamental understanding of the clinical trial process including fundamentals of health research and evaluation methods biostatistics ethics in clinical research randomized controlled trials

Second General Workshop

The 2nd General Workshop is organized as ESR presentations 1 day course on introduction to oncology and radiology for breast cancer organized by the Hospital da Luz LUZ 05 day course on Intellectual Property Rights IPR CE marking and regulatory issues organized by FCID 1 day training in H2020 funding opportunities for companies and universitiesresearch institute organized by FCID 05 day training on precise fabrication of complex antenna prototypes mechanical parts and printed circuits and antenna testing organized by IT 1 day

First Summer School

The First Summer School on diagnostic and therapeutic applications of electromagnetism, after an introduction to bio-electromagnetism with particular attention to safety aspects, will focus on the diagnostic and therapeutic applications of EM fields. The challenges posed by these applications to the EM engineer will be presented and discussed, emphasizing their multi-physics nature and the constraints to be faced when dealing with medical applications. Selected emerging applications will be considered in more detail, and some foreseen developments will be presented. Guided numerical simulations and experimental demonstrations are planned as part of the course. This school is part of the European School on Antennas (ESoA).

First General Workshop

The 1st General Workshop is organized as: ESR introduction (0,5 day); training on the full-wave modelling for EM medical devices with the WIPL-D software, organized by WIPL-D (1,5 day); course on medical imaging techniques, organized by the Dept. of Neurosurgery, INSEL (0,5 day); course on the link between physicists and physicians at the Paris Diderot Health Simulation Center, organized by the Dept. of Emergency Medicine, UP7 (0,5 day).

Final Conference

The Final Conference is planned to maximize the impact of EMERALD final outcomes and introduction to the relevant communities engineers and clinicians and stakeholders aiming for a European wide dissemination of the action Keynote speakers from the medical community will be invited Profs C Pollo and W ZGragger from the University Hospital Bern CH Prof N Goldberg from Hadassah Hebrew University Medical Center IL Dr J Kubes from the Proton Therapy Center in Prague CZ Profs P Plaisance and H Chabriat from the Lariboisire University Hospital FR and Prof P Coelho Dr L Orvalho and Dr M Nave from Hospital da Luz PT At this stage a number of quality papers and presentations of EMERALDs results will have been published so that the conference will be capable to attract industry and academia not only in Europe but worldwide The main results of the action will be present by the ESRs This will boost the exploitation of EMERALD and the job prospects of its young researchers

Second Summer School

The Second Summer School on microwave imaging and diagnostics after reviewing fundamentals and main difficulties of inverse problems in highfrequency electromagnetics will focus on classical and recently introduced solution procedures and algorithms discussing capabilities limitations and perspectives of both approximate and exact methods This school is part of the European School on Antennas ESoA
