Electromagnetic to Optics Transducer

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - EMOT (Electromagnetic to Optics Transducer)

Reporting period: 2018-03-01 to 2019-08-31

Project EMOT has developed a way to detect signals magnetic-resonance imaging (MRI), a way that converts the signal into an optical carrier in a sensitive way using a micro-opto-electro-mechanical system (MOEMS). Such optical conversion can solve several issues in MRI, for instance, interference between cables, detection coils, and the usual electronic amplifiers. The new development was to miniaturize the scheme onto a compact, single-chip device and to simplify the optical setup, thus bringing the idea closer to implementation in real MRI scanners. Importantly, the prototype was demonstrated to work in a commercial scanner.
