A new road status information system for a smarter mobility thanks to an effective and sustainable winter Road Maintenance

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - KLIMATOR RSI (A new road status information system for a smarter mobility thanks to an effective and sustainable winter Road Maintenance)

Reporting period: 2017-06-01 to 2017-08-31

This project aims to accelerate the introduction of the RSI technology in the road maintenance market with the aim to move the public and private vehicle market. RSI is the first RSI is the first technology capable of reliably and accurately monitor and forecast road surface conditions for winter road maintenance markets.
Winter road maintenance is an annual challenge and imposes huge costs for economies, administrations and contractors. With the increase in vehicles using the road and the size of each countries road network winter road maintenance has become key in ensuring the movement of people and goods, which benefits the economy greatly. However, there is a huge problem in monitoring or forecasting road surface conditions as conventional technique do not provide the required detail and cause misuse of equipment and consumables. This market therefore requires a technology capable of reliably and accurately monitoring and predicting road conditions using a cost-effective technology.
We have verified the technical, commercial and financial feasibility of the RSI project. We have performed an in-depth market analysis which has shown us that we are the only technology capable reliably and accurately monitor and forecast road surface conditions, are uniquely poised to exploit this gap in the market. We have undertaken a detailed risk analysis and provided mitigation measures to ensure the project will continue on schedule. We have also prepared a detailed work plan with the specific tasks needed for the completion of the phase 2 project. Finally, we have assessed the financial feasibility of the RSI project with the outcomes, indicating a positive outlook.
Our primary target clients are governmental road authorities and road maintenance contractors, who are undertaking winter road maintenance to increase the safety and efficiency of the road network while reducing operating costs, which comprises over 1,088 potential clients in the EU alone. After the RSI project, roll-out is foreseen in Europe by 2023 with annual sales revenues being €3.99M by 2023.
Our technology will reduce the fuel consumption (~20%) and equipment wear (~5%) associated with winter road maintenance while increasing the safety and efficiency of roads compared to conventional monitoring techniques. By allowing our clients to reliably monitor and forecast road surface conditions, RSI will revolutionise the winter road maintenance market by increase safety and reducing operating costs.
