Leveraging the Environment of civil air TranSport with DOHOP

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - LETS DOHOP (Leveraging the Environment of civil air TranSport with DOHOP)

Reporting period: 2017-05-01 to 2017-08-31

The problem: Air travelers explore new ways to reach far away destinations or save money when they fly by combining airlines routes in order to score the best deal or reach unusual places. Only a very small minority of online search platforms can detect, calculate and display alternative routes beyond those scheduled by their respective airlines in advance, but with a number of deficiencies and drawbacks. The proposed solution:The platform DOHOP: an advanced flight search engine that can provide schedules of all existing flights regardless of the airline. The platform creates unique itineraries between any flights between traditional and low-cost carriers and allows travelers to book those tickets simultaneously and with cancellation guarantees.
DOHOP systems rely on the proprietary advanced algorithms for network analysis which enable an innovative method for efficient data processing, providing on average four times the number of regular itineraries for a one-way route than other data processing methods.
Since the presentation of the Phase 1 proposal many technical efforts and objectives have been achieved, others still remain. As of date, technical requirements activities have resulted in getting the core APIs, algorithm and database systems in a TRL 7 status condition. Attending to TRL categorization for “Complex Systems”, the DOHOP platform is ready for system prototype demonstration in an operational environment. All three products need to be developed DOHOP CONNECT, DOHOP AIRPORT and DOHOP AIRLINE, are being developed but the common core technical designs have been completed.
A Feasibility Study (FS) has been conducted on the DOHOP platform. The result shows that both the technical and commercial risks have already mitigation measures and the financial feasibility study shows the project is financially viable with an accumulated ROI of 19 after 5 years of launching. We will therefore continue developing our system and target and full release it after conclusion of PH2. DOHOP will bring benefits for all the players in the flight market: travelers, LCCs and airports, hoteliers and car rentals which translate into airline route network efficiency and airport capacity optimization. In the long term, DOHOP aims to become a global hub for interconnecting flight information, by including all the possible databases of airports and airlines.
