Assembly Tooling for the Fast Rotorcraft Project

Periodic Reporting for period 3 - ASTRO (Assembly Tooling for the Fast Rotorcraft Project)

Reporting period: 2020-09-01 to 2022-02-28

The objective of the project is to get a complete set of assembly and maintenance tooling, including auxiliary tooling. Due to
the tight tolerances required in aeronautical industry, Some assembly jigs will be equipped with an optical structured light
measure system that will allow the set up of the tooling and the position verification of the parts during assembly with
tolerances equal or under 0.1 mm. The use of this kind of systems are spearhead in the field of precision measurement and
the advantages against currently measurement systems, as laser tracker, will be shown in following paragraphs. In addition,
optical systems are becoming the preferred measurement systems in automatized assembly jigs which will be the step
forward in the aeronautical assembly lines.
Performed activities Assembly Tooling:
Requirements freeze: tooling requirements defined with AIRBUS.
Tools interface with Rotorcraft defined.
Complete definition of the assembly tooling with 3D designs.
Tools in operation defined.
Interferences in operation with helicopter solved.
Manufacturing 2D drawings and operation manuals ongoing.

Design of the Assembly-Maintenance platforms.

Performed activities Management:
Management of project costs and grant agreement aspects.
Monitoring and checking of technical work.
Monitoring of administrative aspects and objectives follow up

Performed activities of the OPTICAL MEASUREMENT SYSTEM:
Complete definition of the measurement system based in cameras and structured light
Main impact of the project is the high technical challenge of Wing Support Tool. High precision needed for wing positioning and a platform with 6 freedom degrees could be used in future equipments for military as well as civil purposes.
