peLabDisk aimed at a desinging a proof-of-concept medical device that differentiated the two inflammatory Skin diseases Psoriasis and (atopic) eczema. Using a unique biomarker combination identified in the ERC STG IMCIS (676858), a microfluidic lab-on-a-chip platform should build the basis to design such a medical device. This platform was delivered by the Partner Hahn-Schickard. In the Course of peLabDisk, we adapted protocols for tissue Lysis, RNA extraction from tissue, as well as real-time PCR to make it compatible with the microfluidics platform. peLabDisk was successful: we now have a functional proof-of-concept of the first fully automated diagnostic device in the field of inflammatory Skin diseases. Furthermore, the ERC POC grant seeded further Funding, such as a Project Transfer grant by the Helmholtz Society and a Medical Valley Award of the Bavarian Government. The further development of this product will now be undertaken in a specialised start-up - the Dermagnostix GmbH.
