This task builds on existing SHERPA work to develop guidelines for developers as well as guidelines for users of AI and seeks to connect this with the Ethics by Design EbD approach undertaken in the SIENNA project In these ways the task feeds into the ECs guidance for ethics review of Horizon Europe projects Our aims in this task are thus 1 further development and application of the EbD methodology so as to help researchers in their practice 2 to produce training material related to EbD which can be used beyond the lifetime of the SHERPA project 3 to pilot the training material by delivering training sessions including for researchers within H2020 andor those who intend to bid for Horizon Europe funding and 4 To embed EbD in research ethics frameworks for AI and to develop competencies for researchers and research ethics assessors for research ethics for AI that includes EbD SHERPA therefore plans to offer EbD training to interested audiences such as NCPs adopting the SIENNA approach Following successful completion of this task SHERPA intends to develop an EbD training programme that will be made available as a commercially available resource through the nonprofit spinout company ORBIT wwworbitrriorg This ensures that the legacy of this work will remain after the project lifetime

Artificial Intelligence Impact Assessment - A systematic review

This task aims to establish how an impact assessment for AI should be designed so that it can address ethical and human rights concerns In order to do this the task undertakes a systematic review of impact assessments that are of relevance to AI to understand what counts as good practice in impact assessment and how such good practice can be applied to AI Following the academic literature review the task will conduct a series of snowball and peer searches to provide a comprehensive account of available AI impact assessment models tools and templates These documents will be systematically analysed to identify good practice and minimum requirements for impact assessments to be suitable to address ethical and human rights issues of AI

Reporting on the impact of SHERPA AI Ethics Education

Using the SHERPA work and in particular stakeholder input and developed mitigation proposals this task will develop and assess educational material that will contribute positively to AI education Specifically the developed material will include the following two activitiesselection of teachingoriented case studies building on reallife case studies adjusted according to the educational paradigm of designing for values educational materialdeveloping training sessions on SHERPArelated outcomes and assessing them using pilot workshops supported by the project partners involved in this taskThe pilot workshops will be used to assess the learning of the participants after undergoing the training IT professionals and technology experts will participate in these workshopsIn addition to formal educational materials led by UclanCY with contributions from FSC DMU UT PJ the task will also select materials for nonformal educational training that will also be assessed in a pilot workshop led by AHR where members of the general public will be invited to participate In both formal education and nonformal education materials the activity leaders will collect feedback and adjust if necessary before organising the pilot workshops The pilot workshops will act as interventions related to AI ethics where the learning of the participants can be evaluated in relation to the proposed educational materials As such the learning impact of the proposed materials can be recorded and documentedMoreover the case study included in the formal educational materials as well as a number of additional case studies will be published as an open access Springer book The book will contain novel case studies that highlight ethical and human rights issues and solutions in line with the SHERPA recommendations the activity will be led by UCLanCY
