Résumé du contexte et des objectifs généraux du projet

Despite legislative and technological progress made over the past 20 years, incidents involving motorcyclists are still cause of concern for the European Union and Member States. The main cause of accidents remains high speed, especially in the presence of specific dangerous road points. The project's aim is to launch, on the European two-wheeled market, the first wearable device able to warn motorcyclists well in advance of the presence of dangerous spots and road sections in which the speed must be carefully controlled. The device, called WOOLF, has been specifically conceived for motorcyclists, developed by exploiting the potential of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and instant updated road databases.

During the Phase 1, the company has been able to demonstrate the validity of the business idea, both from the technological and the economic points of view. Thanks to the Technical Finalization, the company has completed the hardware and software development; through the market introduction plan, it has clearly defined its sales potential and its marketing strategy at Global level. The risks assessment allowed the company to establish solid activities to limit technical risks related to the project. Organizational, financial and market risks have been also considered to identify mitigation measures well in advance. While developing the feasibility study, the company has verified in detail all the costs it will incur and the revenues from WOOLF sales, thus confirming the strong growth potential of the developed product.

Progrès au-delà de l’état des connaissances et impact potentiel prévu (y compris l’impact socio-économique et les conséquences sociétales plus larges du projet jusqu’à présent)

WOOLF will help to dramatically reduce the risk of road accidents for thousands of motorcyclists. It is the only wearable device in the world dedicated to motorbikes. It is cheaper in comparison to other systems currently used, it is thin and comfortable to wear even with tight gloves. It is the only device that does not rely on sight, allowing hands free and eyes on the road. It allows alerts only, without navigation and without distractions for the drivers.
Thanks to WOOLF:
-motorcyclists will have at their disposal a new instrument supporting their own safety, with the possibility to be warned well in advance of a potential danger;
-motorcycle manufacturers will have available, at zero cost, a technology that does not interfere with the performance of the motorbike, which is completely safe and that concretely increases the driver's safety level. Indeed, WOOLF does not have to be applied to the motorcycle and does not disturb the biker while driving;
-associations of Motorcyclists and of Manufacturers of Motorcycles will have an extra tool to encourage virtuous behaviors and educate motorcyclists to safe driving;
-National and European Authorities: WOOLF allows them to respond effectively to two strategic objectives of the EU Road Safety adopted in 2010, namely to introduce and promote the use of smart technologies within the transport security and adopt a concrete action for the immediate benefit of motorcyclists.
