Periodic Reporting for period 1 - CellTrainer (Low Cost Real-time Multi-Physics Virtual Reality Training System For In-vitro Fertilisation Microinjection Tasks)
Período documentado: 2018-06-01 hasta 2019-11-30
Through this ERC-PoC we achieved the following objectives:
1) Testing the technical feasibility of a VR based simulation system for the training of micro-manipulation manual handling skills
2) Workflow and SWOT analysis of current approaches and subsequent training aids within IVF clinics
3) Implementation of the CellTrainer system for demonstrator to gain end user feedback and validate technical assumptions
4) Market assessments, commercial planning, including patent searches and economic cost analysis
5) Identification of additional work needed to achieve a route to market and reduce risks
By working with the UCL Centre of Reproductive Genetic Health (CRGH), UCL Transgenic Services (TS), and UCL Business we identified a set of technical adaptions needed to improve the commercial feasibility of the CellTrainer system. Further, we demonstrated key benefits of the CellTrainer system in improving the manual handling training for embryologists using simulation tools. Through end user testing, this led to a series of technical recommendations to then implement a second prototype and lower the associated costs appropriate for the education market. Future work includes successful implementation of identified recommendations related to the e-learning environment and biomechanical model, in addition to patent protection of the updated system.
