WP0 focused on general project management tasks.
In WP1 the focus was concentrated on call planning and topic descriptions (CFP 9, 10 and 11), exchanges with Clean Sky 2 partners on metrics/reference aircraft as well as exchanges with the JU on the TE light projection. Further discussions focused on the elaboration and finalisation of three proposals for CfTs (i.e. dealing with the “TE-IS”, “Catalytic Effects” and “Competitiveness”).
WP2 dealt with the interfaces between the TE and IADPs, ITDs and TAs. Monthly teleconferences took place to exchange on the TE light projection, the “Techno2Models” table, indicators to measure competitiveness, additional noise metrics as well as the preparation of the TE CfP rounds. Specific meetings with SPDs were organised covering topics like climate impact, noise, competitiveness and forecasts &scenarios. Specific exchange meetings were also held with Eco-design, SESAR 2020 and EASA. In addition, three TE-SPD Bi-Annual workshops were held in 2018 and 2019.
In WP3 work on modelling of 3 concept planes with an expected entry into service in 2050 has been continued in 2018. Plausibility checks with SPD models have been done. Results for the REG 50/70 Seat Multi-mission Reference and Concept Vehicle have been produced. The TLARs for all reference and concept aircraft are completed. In addition, in the course of the year 2019 the aircraft concept models were all delivered to the TE and plausibility checks of the aircraft models were done. Another major task in 2019 consisted of the management of the TE CfP 09 project “TeDiMo” on technology diffusion modelling. The project is not finalised yet but the findings will be used in the first global assessment.
In WP4 a representative set of European airports based on a classification of primary hub, secondary hub and regional airports has been selected in preparation for the 1st assessment. Also the assessment process was defined, i.e. in terms of scope, the main underlying assumptions and the indicators to be used. Eventually a preliminary noise input has been elaborated for the light projection assessment using the noise objectives as starting point. In 2019 further progress was reached in the project “CLAIRPORT”. The airport simulations on microscopic level were finalised. Noise and emission level calculations to prepare the environmental impact assessments on airport level for the first global assessment were started.
In WP5 work was carried out for the light projection assessment during the year 2018. For this a simplified world fleet forecast has been produced including concept aircraft replacement scenarios. The environmental impact in terms of emissions was evaluated using the manufacturer´s vehicle objectives and entry into service assumptions for the mainliners and regional fleet. Additionally socio economic analysis was done at global level for the gross value added development and at European level for employment both for the time frame of 2050. A list of potential indicators reflecting competitiveness was elaborated and after a workshop with SPDs established. Connectivity examples in terms of combination of aircraft and car travel times were evaluated using European wide data. In the frame of WP5 CfP05 work was also executed for rotorcraft assessments using 1st model inputs from manufacturers yielding first environmental results for CO2. The increased mobility of fast rotorcraft for oil platform traffic in the North Sea was analysed. Also forecasts for future 2035 Small Air Transport, business jet and rotorcraft fleets were elaborated. During the course of the year 2019 this work was continued in preparation of the first assessment. The project “DEPART2050” has delivered results for the environmental assessments of the compound rotorcraft and the tiltrotor aircraft. The mobility impact had also been assessed. Special emphasis of the TE was further put on the elaboration of the TE demand forecast incl. airport capacity constraints modelling. The forecasts for SAT, for BizJet and for rotorcraft (originally done by CIRA in the projects “FORSAT”, “FORJET”, “FORROT”) were also updated. Furthermore, the scenario storylines for the first global assessment were elaborated. In relation to the second TE-SPD Bi-Annual workshop in November 2019 the TE took the opportunity to discuss the underlying assumptions ot the scenarios as well as those for the demand forecast and fleet modelling. Further ATS work concentrated on the topic management for the three CfP 09 calls “GLIMPSE 2050”, “OASyS” and “TRANSEND” to complete the focus of the mission level assessments in relation to the second global assessment. Four additional calls for CfP 11 were elaborated by the TE in parallel.
In WP6 a white paper on the TE information system was written in 2018 as being part of the an upcoming cft documentation in 2019. The updated documentation in 2019 included a detailed description of the scope, the corresponding objectives and the technical requirements for the system.
In WP7 the TE Dissemination and Exploitation plan was defined and an update of TE website done during the course of the year 2018. Additionally animations for the “Omniglobe” spherical projector were implemented and shown at the Tokio airshow 2018 as element for dissemination activities. In 2019 the TE Dissemination and Exploitation plan and activities were updated. A specific icons set to strengthen the awareness of the TE and to illustrate the manifold assessment levels was developed. Additional animations for the “Omniglobe” spherical projector were implemented and shown at the Clean Sky 2 Event in March 2019,during the Aerodays in May 2019 and during the IATA conference "Wings of Change" in November 2019.
