Summary of the context and overall objectives of the project

Invisible Window represents a totally innovative window, with its slim frame glued between the two glasses that make up the most common of the double-glazing unit. This unprecedented construction technology makes the refined glass-only window very competitive for production costs and, above all, for energy efficiency. In the world of doors and windows, the attempts to remove the external frame from the movable wings or to considerably reduce its size are numerous and different by now
The CIC (research and development company ) and Vetro Marche (glass industry/company aimed at innovation) consortium, thanks to the contribution of Sme Instrument Phase 1, has managed to realize 4 different prototypes of Invisible Window; the latter allowed to verify that the so dreamed window could be really industrially produced with different materials and opening / closing systems, in order to be put into the European market (and not only ), and effectively respond to the growing demand for energy efficiency, industrial simplification and essential design.

Work performed from the beginning of the project to the end of the period covered by the report and main results achieved so far

The laboratory tests confirm that the small frame inside the double glazing windows works very well from a mechanical / structural point of view
The realization of the prototypes allowed us to verify and fine-tune the assembly method of the window frame, as well as the complete supply chain of the suppliers for the production of the Invisible Window

Progress beyond the state of the art and expected potential impact (including the socio-economic impact and the wider societal implications of the project so far)

The market analysis we have conducted convinces us to start producing and selling the external frameless window to mobile wings in Italy, France, Germany, UK, Poland. The patent was developed and filed by Placido Munafò, full professor at the Polytechnic University of the Marche and a founding member of Cic, the company of the consortium that bought it. The patent, having already passed the PCT phase, is registered and certified in Italy. Having requested it in 2016, at the moment, it is extended to all European Union countries and the USA
We will submit the project in Sme Instrument Phase 2 hoping to be financed with H2020 funds. But if we do not have to go through phase 2, we will find funding elsewhere so that Vetro Marche can start production of the glass-only window.
