European Union Contest for Young Scientists' 2018

Project description

A scientific boost for youth in Ireland

Efforts to encourage young people to study science and pursue careers in science is a priority for the EU. In this context, the European Union Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS) has advanced science and research across Europe since 1989 by bringing together talented young people. EUCYS aims to increase efforts to attract young people to careers in science and technology. The EU-funded EUCYS2018 project has organised the contest for the second time in Ireland by the Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition Limited in close cooperation with the Irish Department for Education and Skills. The project brings together excellent young researchers from dozens of countries. Ireland has experience organising an Irish National contest for young scientists for the last 54 years, the longest-running competition of its kind in Europe.

Objective

European Union Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS) has been organised since 1989 with the aim of promoting science and research among Europe's youth and bringing together the talented young people across Europe. The young scientists also have the chance to meet others with similar abilities and interests and to be guided by some of the most prominent scientists in Europe. This way EUCYS seeks to strengthen the efforts made in each participating country to attract young people to careers in science and technology. EUCYS has been organised in countries across Europe with the aim of promoting science and research in different countries and bringing research and young talents into spotlight in these countries. Ireland will organise EUCYS for the second time in 2018, after hosting it for the first time in 2004. Ireland also has previous experience in organising an Irish National contest for young scientists for the last 54 years, the longest running competition of its kind in Europe. The host organiser of EUCYS 2018 will be Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition Limited in close cooperation with the Irish Department for Education and Skills.
EUCYS brings together excellent young researchers from 40-69 countries. During 4 days the participating projects will be interviewed by jury members and decisions about European Union prizes, special prizes and host organisation prizes will be made.
