Multimedia Open Environment Using the European Home Network for Building Management

Objective

MOMENTUM is aimed at developing an open building management system based on a reference model, and incorporating multimedia information. The use of the European Home System protocol as the backbone of the architecture will ensure its open character.

The project will develop the following activities:

- Definition of a structured reference model of the "intelligence" of large buildings, including a basic inventory of possible building objects, and strategies to be applied to the different areas. The structure introduced by the reference model will help manage the complexity of the system.
- Application of multimedia technologies, i.e. video, audio and data integration, to simplify the interaction of the different user types (eg workers, security personnel, maintenance personnel, visitors) with the buiding management system and with the environment.
- Development of the minimum subset of field equipment conformant to the European Home System Specification (EHSS), enabling full control of the building. This will include a multimedia workstation for building control, a family of embedded controllers, and a family of electrical metering equipment.
- Validation of the approach by installing one pilot demonstrator in a building in Spain.

The project development will be exploited by the industrial partners in their corresponding market areas according to the detailed exploitation plans put together by the industrial partners.
