Advancing Common Basic Services for Distributed Concurrent Engineering Applications

Objective

The objective of ADVANCE is to offer a uniform approach to concurrent engineering by providing system services and tools which are needed to support a co-operative effort in an industrial development cycle. The key component of ADVANCE is the set of "Common Basic Services" which provide enhanced services to frameworks and directly to tools, whether integrated in the framework or only loosely coupled. The expected benefit for the user will be increased efficiency and integration including access to multiple data stores.

The Common Basic Services will consist of a flexible control mechanism, a basic event-handling system and an awareness service. These will be integrated with an object-oriented data and programming model and supported by distributed shared memory technology and an inter-tool communication facility. The Common Basic Services will be controlled by higher level tools and applications.

The major activities to be carried out in ADVANCE are:

- analysis of concurrent engineering applications in the domains of electronic and mechanical manufacturing in order to derive user requirements for the Common Basic Services
- definition of functional specifications for the Common Basic Services based on these user requirements
- implementation of the Common Basic Services;
- evaluation of the Common Basic Services in an industrial context.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
