Project description
Smart platform to streamline manufacturing operations
The EU-funded BrainedFactory project plans to unveil a smart platform to ease the transition to Industry 4.0 and bring the factory automation concept closer to reality. The platform, which will be offered as a service, will combine the latest advances in AI, Big Data and image recognition. Owing to its flexibility and highly customisable nature, it can be implemented in a large spectrum of companies in the manufacturing sector. Industry 4.0 holds great promise for the manufacturing industry, resulting in reduced lead times, optimised product designs, higher control over production, reduced manufacturing costs and energy and waste savings.
Objective
BasedBased on a Big Data & Artificial Intelligence environment where all data are monitored and implemented continuously, BrainedFactory is a Smart Factory platform integrating the Industry 4.0 and digital transformation to streamline and improve the whole process. It provides quotations, process engineering and manufacturing of industrial parts with maximum customisation in process design, lead time and production cost reduction, higher production plan capacity, scalability, stability, less errors during the process and predictive maintenance. BrainedFactory project relies on edge technology to bring the fully automated factory concept to life, forming a highly advanced Cyber-Physical Production System: - Industrial plant: all machines will be connected and networked to each other and to the main company IT applications. IoT sensors will help make all the steps in the production chain autonomous and work in closed loop, that is, the control system will get instant feedback from the outcomes and performance of every task, optimising the whole process in real-time and reducing cost, energy and waste. - IT infrastructure: Big Data collection, processing and tracking of the data produced by all production machines; Artificial Intelligence and data science analytics will help in making decisions to enable: 1. Real-time quotation and design in the engineering stage, 2. Real-time adaptation of production parameters to ensure manufacturing stage stability and increase productivity, 3. Communication with business IT ecosystem to optimise schedule, capacity and plant performance. Following the addition of a new plant in Ginestra (Italy), the enhancement of our manufacturing technology and the development of new information systems, BrainedFactory represents the next step in our company growth, putting 100% of R&D resources and investments towards its development and complete factory implementation aimed at 2020, expecting to obtain €25.6M additional revenues after 5 years.
