Periodic Reporting for period 1 - REPLICATE (The Revolutionary Tooth Replacement System for Minimally Invasive Immediate Dental Implants)

Summary of the context and overall objectives of the project

70% of the people aged 35-44 have lost at least one tooth - which implies both physical and psychological impacts for the person losing it. Current solutions (mainly bridges and traditional screw-type dental implants) for repairing and replacing non-functional teeth are invasive, risky and time-consuming and often require the general dentist to refer patients to a dental specialist. REPLICATE Tooth, is a root-form one-piece per-mucosal dental implant, indicated for immediate insertion, a one-stage procedure and delayed functional load. The objectives of the project are: 1) set up the new REPLICATE NCD Zirconia line to provide a better solution with outstanding mechanical and aesthetic properties, 2) upscale production to meet the demands of pan EU and US expansion and reduce costs.

Work performed from the beginning of the project to the end of the period covered by the report and main results achieved so far

Our Feasibility Study has guaranteed the viability of the project: 1) In the technical plan, we defined the strategy to optimize and industrialize the REPLICATE NCD Zirconia line according to a detailed work plan with cost analysis for Ph2 and a complete evaluation of technical risks. 2) Our commercial plan and the FTO Analysis show that the REPLICATE NCD Zirconia Tooth is freely exploitable. We have assessed the existing and new-target markets, our target segments, scale up of the addressable markets, competitors, commercial risks, and the regulatory environment to consolidate our marketing strategy. We have built our business and revenue models as well as the value chain. 3) We have prepared a financial plan, in which we conclude that REPLICATE NCD Zirconia Tooth will allow us to generate €142.76M cumulative profit with a ROI of 75.75 in 2025.

Progress beyond the state of the art and expected potential impact (including the socio-economic impact and the wider societal implications of the project so far)

The project will allow us to 1) upgrade our current hybrid version (zirconia + titanium) to an all Zirconia version with a thin-film diamond coating for improved biocompatibility; 2) increase the degree of automatization, implement quality controls specific to ceramic materials, workflow optimization and improve the production line efficiency. We will update the infrastructure to support the expected capacity and to decrease the production cost. The REPLICATE NCD Zirconia Tooth will offer patients an immediate, minimally invasive, aesthetically appealing solution. Expected side-effects of the REPLICATE NCD Zirconia Tooth are lowered treatment time, reduced postoperative pain and avoidance of unnecessary treatment repetitions. It will set a new standard of care.
