Quantum Microwave Communcation and Sensing

Deliverables

Model of non-guided quantum microwave state transfer and teleportation.

We develop theory models for long-range open-air quantum microwave communication under realistic conditions. Specifically, we set up a theory model of non-guided quantum microwave state transfer and a theory model of non-guided quantum microwave teleportation.

We develop a logo and set up the project website as central platform for communication between partners and dissemination channel for QMiCS’ results.

Key components for microwave QLAN cable.

We design, fabricate, and characterize the main components for a millikevin link connecting two dilution refrigerators. These include the successful factory acceptance test between one dilution refrigerator and a cold networking node at half distance (approx. 3m) and the development of a suitable 7 m long superconducting microwave cable.

High-fidelity microwave single-photon detector

We implement single microwave photon detectors with state-of-the-art quantum efficiencies above 80%. Exemplary possibilities are (i) Cavity-based single-photon detector, (ii) Novel number-resolving photon counter or (iii) Calorimetric photon detector.

Midterm management report.

We prepare the midterm management report covering the first 18 project months.

Non-Gaussian-to-Gaussian state transformation for distributed quantum computing.

Quantum state transformation of qubit states from a superconducting quantum processor into CV propagating microwaves is explored. We focus on reversible, efficient non-Gaussian-to-Gaussian transducing processes, taking advantage of communication protocols though noisy channels. As an alternative, we consider block-chain-type protocols, which distribute the information over several channels less sensitive to decoherence.
